2005 • Bayonne Tête de Pont
Upscale housing, Bayonne, France

This urban project perimeter is about 4.5 Ha / 11.15 acres: development and construction of three (3) blocks bordering the Adour-Left Bank river, close by Bayonne's historic center. The Buffi Associés team offers, while creating a "lived-in park", to unify the site different parts around the sprawling breathing offered by the river and its generous banks.

  • Such unity takes shape thanks to the create on of a "major axis" connecting both river banks, link on which the site great events will happen
  • By transforming the fast traffic lanes crossing the site into an urban boulevard, one's gives meaning to the public space, the founding act of the place's identity
  • By offering an urban layout issued from a reflexion on the city's historic and topographic fabric, the city is then largely opened toward the river thanks to the creation of new continuities and stunning vistas
  • Through the proposal of a "lived-in park," we create a "green density" where new urban lifestyles will be developed

  • At urban scale: the arrival from Henri Grent bridge from now on embodies one of the town major access, thanks to the treatment of a "City Gate" through the making of an urban square that could welcome a facilities building at town's scale
  • At city scale: to reconcile the spread out city with its river, to support the city exits toward the Atlantic Ocean beaches, to strengthen such block's own identity as it is located between the river bank ans the roman arenas, and carry out an extension of the city's density thanks to a new green lived-in density
  • At block's scale: to weave links connecting the city to the river, to create a park opened toward the block and to favor the lots' permeability to vistas, sunlight and pedestrian paths
